Workshop on Preparation of Flood Hazard Maps was Held

Activity 2.8 Workshop on Preparation of Flood Hazard Maps was held recently by the “Technical Assistance to Prepare Flood Risk Management Plan for Meriç-Ergene River Basin” project, financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye within the scope of the Environment and Climate Action Sector Operational Programme (IPA-2) from February 27-28, 2025. The meeting was convened in Edirne with the participation of stakeholders in the basin region. The workshop aimed to ensure exchange of information among stakeholders regarding the preparation of the flood risk maps on the basin scale.

The workshop chaired by the General Directorate of Water Management was started with participants including stakeholder institutions and organizations. Following the overview of the project aims and its expected outputs, a comprehensive technical presentation was made on the flood management plan studies in Türkiye.

After a detailed presentation by the Technical Assistance Team of the project on the process and results of the preparation of the final flood water depth and flood hazard maps, the methodology currently applied was shared with the participants. In the afternoon session, practical hands-on sessions were held with the participants on flood risk map preparation studies.

On the final day of the workshop, subsequent to the presentation and evaluation of the results obtained, the event ended upon the suggestions and contributions of the participants on the program and its outcomes.
