TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO PREPARE FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR MERİÇ-ERGENE RIVER BASIN ACTIVITY 1.4 FIELD VISIT HAS BEEN CONDUCTED

Within the scope of Activity 1.4 of the “Technical Assistance to Prepare Flood Risk Management Plan for Meriç-Ergene River Basin” project co-financed by the European Union (IPA-2) and the Republic of Türkiye, a 5-day field visit was carried out between 28 November - 2 December 2022. 

During the visit, field works regarding the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment were conducted with the participation of the End Recipient, Team Leader, and the Technical Assistance Team.  These site visits will contribute to the preliminary risk assessment of the project. For this purpose, centres of Çorlu, Malkara, Keşan of Tekirdağ provinces, and several districts and villages located in the basin were visited and detailed examinations were carried out in the settlements. 




During the phase of preparing the Flood Hazard Maps and Flood Risk Maps within the scope of Activity 2, one and two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling studies will be carried out.  It has been investigated whether the creeks will pose risk to the settlements in case of a possible flood by examining their topographical locations, their distance from the accommodation unit, the adequacy of the transition structures on the creek (bridge, culvert, pipe, etc.), the bed capacity located in the settlements. During these visits, some interviews with the local people have been conducted regarding the past floods occurred in the regions, and they have been informed about the studies to be carried out within the scope of the project.
