THE OPENING MEETING OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO PREPARE FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR MERİÇ-ERGENE RIVER BASIN

Within the scope of II. Period of the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), the opening meeting of “Technical Assistance to Prepare Flood Risk Management Plan For Meriç-Ergene River Basin” Project, which is co-financed by the European Union and Türkiye, was held at the JW Marriot Hotel Angora Conference Hall on June 2^nd, 2022.



A total of 182 people participated to the meeting, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Veysel TİRYAKİ, Head of the Delegation of European Union to Türkiye Ambassador Nikolaus MEYER-LANDRUT, Austria’s Ambassador to Türkiye Dr. Johannes WIMMER, Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Türkiye Angel CHOLAKOV, Greece’s Ambassador to Türkiye Christodoulos LAZARIS, Director General for Water Management Mr. Bilal DİKMEN, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Foreign Relations Head of the Department of EU Investments IPA Director Dr. İsmail Raci BAYER, the representatives of the Directorate General for Water Management and the relevant management and experts of the contractor company.

Technical Assistance Project was initiated in March 2022 and is planned to be completed in March 2025. The following works will be carried out in the Meriç-Ergene Basin within the scope of the aforementioned project:

• Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment
• Preparation of Flood Hazard Maps
• Preparation of Flood Risk Maps
• Preparation of Flood Risk Management Plan for Meriç-Ergene Basin
• Revision of the existing Flood Warning System as Flood Forecasting & Early Warning System and Extension of Coverage to the Basin Scale
