Three-day-site visits were carried out between September 30—October 1, 2024 within the scope of Activity 2.6 Preparation of Flood Hazard Maps by the Technical Assistance to Prepare Flood Risk Management Plan for Meriç-Ergene River Basin project financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye as a part of Environment and Climate Action Sector Operational Programme (IPA-2). Two separate teams consisting of the Final Beneficiary and the Technical Assistance Team simultaneously conducted field inspections and updates for the Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System (TATUS) studies and Hydraulic Modeling studies.
During the field studies, 19 points in the basin were visited by the Hydraulic Modeling Team. At these points, the accuracy of the hydraulic models were checked, whether the flood extent reflects reality, while also considering potential measures.
Meanwhile, the TATUS team examined the observation stations in the southern part of the basin, as well as 18 settlements including Uzunköprü, Çiftlikköy, Kavaklı, Akıncılar, Yenicegörece, and made the necessary updates for the TATUS alarm mechanism to be established in the basin.
