Workshop on Preparation of Flood Hazard Maps Held in Edirne

The first session of the Activity 2.6 Workshop on Preparation of Flood Hazard Maps was held by the “Technical Assistance to Prepare Flood Risk Management Plan for Meriç-Ergene River Basin” project, financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye within the scope of the Environment and Climate Action Sector Operational Programme (IPA-2). The meeting was convened in Edirne on October 3, 2023, with the participation of stakeholders in the basin region. The workshop’s overall aim was to ensure exchange of information among stakeholders before the completion of flood hazard maps. 

The first session of the workshop chaired by Ms. Afire Sever was started with a total of 71 participants including stakeholder institutions and organizations. Following the introduction of the Project aims and its expected outputs, a comprehensive technical presentation was made on the project activities and flood management plan studies in Türkiye.

Subsequently, the hydraulic modeling methodology currently applied in the Project was presented to the participants, as well as the process of preparing flood water depth maps and flood hazard maps. In the afternoon sessions of the workshop, practical implementations were held with the participants on modeling and mapping studies.
